The challenge in this project was to convert a two-level underground car park (5m each) into a four stories health club. The main constraints were the predefined heights, the existing slabs, the structure and the lack of natural light. The design solution was based on a spatial approach, introducing a central triple level core, a play of interactive and fluid spaces, an animated combination of color and lighting with a sense of transparency.
The place became pleasant and alive. The central core, a hub for the whole complex, is formed of finely detailed stairs with glass treads and two panoramic elevators. It overlooks and links between all spaces and functions. This includes the entrance, the pool, the jogging track, the restaurant, the conference room, the squash quart, the fitness hall, the body building hall and the beauty center.
Whenever possible, obstructions were cleared and split levels were used to maximize the fluidity and the visual link between the different activities. The club feels like one place despite the large number of function it holds.
